What is spiritual direction?

Spiritual direction is a spiritual discipline that dates back to the 3^rd century. It has been described as “holy listening”. A spiritual director seeks to provide a sacred space to guide directees as they seek and listen to God’s stirring and movement in their lives. A directee’s journey of discovery often unfolds through silent, deep listening in a safe, welcoming space prepared by the director. This is a sacred hour where directees can examine their inward life so that their outward life can be transformed. Many are now discovering the beauty, joy and benefits of spiritual direction in the 21^st century.

If this is all new to you, sometimes it helps to explain what spiritual direction is NOT:

· Counseling or psychotherapy

· Oriented to problem solving

· Driven by an agenda or techniques

· Religious instruction

What does a spiritual direction session looks like?

A spiritual direction session with me can be held in person or online. Each session usually lasts 1 hour and all that is discussed is confidential. Usually the session will start with a prayer and lighting a candle to honor and recognize God's presence. Next, we will most likely move into a period of silence. This silence opens our hearts to hear what God is saying. You are in charge of how long we remain in silent listening and can end the silence when ready to share whatever is on your heart. Throughout the session, I will listen and look of God's movement - asking questions along the way. There may be other times of silence and/or prayer as we journey together. We will be seeking all that God has for you.

Is there a charge for spiritual direction?

Yes, the fee is $50 per session and can be paid via CashApp, Venmo or Paypal.

If you decide to enter into a spiritual direction relationship, I will email you a spiritual direction covenant. We will then set up a time for your first session.
